Designed to produce a narrow beam of sound, similar to the beam of light from a stage spotlight or flashlight, Audio Spotlight speakers provide unprecedented directivity and sound control. By simply aiming the thin, flat speaker panel at the desired target, Holosonics' patented technology allows users to discreetly provide sound to specific areas, without significantly impacting the overall ambient noise level, or disrupting surrounding areas.
Our new speaker design eliminates the external amplifier in lieu of a simpler, sleeker, all-in-one package. While the amplifier/processor has been squeezed into the speaker, its abilities and features have also been significantly enhanced. The amplifier now features revised audio processing, resulting in a much fuller and more natural sound output, including an improved low-frequency range. The improvement in breadth and depth of sound quality the new models offer is quite impressive, and a large step forward for our unique directional speaker technology.
The advancements don't end there; the new Audio Spotlight systems also offer a built-in playback device with microSD memory capability, as well as an infrared remote control, seamlessly allowing users complete advanced control over the system's features and parameters.

Holosonics has also included VESA 100 and M6 mounting inserts on each speaker model, in addition to a pair of keyhole style inserts, to provide more flexible mounting options and third-party compatibility, which will be of great benefit to customers worldwide.
Dr. F. Joseph Pompei, the founder of Holosonics and inventor of the Audio Spotlight directional speaker technology, proudly states, "We have been working towards this design for a long time and are very excited to share these new and improved models with our customers. We take great pride in catering our technology to our customers, and every new design came directly from their desires and thoughtful feedback."

The Audio Spotlight technology was a perfect fit for the spirit of The Smithsonian's Future Is Here Festival, an annual celebration and exploration of science, technology, culture and the arts gathered around the exciting, elastic theme of future technology. Focused on motivating young people in science, guest speakers Deborah Berebichez of Science Channel's Outrageous Acts of Science and Kari Byron of Discovery Channel's Mythbusters used the Audio Spotlight speaker to pan the audience, giving those in attendance a truly unique listening experience.
As Berebichez explains, "We discussed the physics of sound and demonstrated the futuristic effect of Holosonics' Audio Spotlight speaker by beaming the popular Pharrell Williams song 'Happy' to the audience. Having never experienced anything similar before, people laughed and applauded as the beam of music passed by their heads, and the excitement could be felt in the room."
To help relate the benefits of Holosonics' directional speakers, Byron and Berebichez referenced Hollywood's science fiction blockbuster 'Minority Report,' which included scenes where actor Tom Cruise was singularly targeted on a public sidewalk with personalized retail advertising announcements. The futuristic concept was based directly on Holosonics' Audio Spotlight technology, and adding controlled sound to digital signage or in-store product displays are already two of, more popular applications for their directional speakers.
Kari and Debbie discussed other practical applications where controlled sound is of particular benefits, such as museums, galleries, and trade show exhibits, kiosks, waiting rooms, offices, and healthcare facilities, and even assisted listening for the hard of hearing. As the technology continues to mature and evolve, they expect Holosonics' speakers could one day be found in every household, allowing families to split-screen TV's and listen to different programming from opposite sides of the same couch, or to help a slumbering partner sleep more comfortably in peace while their spouse watches TV beside them in bed.
Kari shares, "The Holosonic speaker is a perfect example of how today's innovations can impact our daily lives for years to come. It was great to demonstrate the power of the Audio Spotlight technology to a science-minded audience."

Louis Vuitton Brings Theater to Retail Advertising Using Holosonics Audio Spotlight System in New Rome Super-flagship Store
Italy’s historic premier movie theater, Spazio Étoile receives a makeover with Louis Vuitton’s latest fashion-forward multimedia advertising campaign. Audiovisual & Multimedia Project Director Jean Paul Cardoso stated, “Louis Vuitton was looking for an innovative technology showcase for the sound design of a theater-based installation in its new store, and the Audio Spotlight system proved to be the perfect device.” Cardoso continued, “The Audio Spotlight has created a unique link between a screen diffusing some films and its associated background music without any disturbance with the global sound design of the store.”
What makes the Roman Maison most unique from Vuitton’s existing flagship locations is its ground level 19-seat cinema, displaying short films by many renowned directors. Based on interior architect Peter Marino’s open design concept, the cinema can even be viewed from the men’s floor on the second story. The Audio Spotlight directional speaker systems allowed Vuitton to provide that perch with the same sound as any of the theater seats below, providing a truly unique and personal theater viewing experience, all while preventing sonic interference with the existing sound design of the rest of the store floor.
Designed to deliver a narrow sound beam of coverage, akin to the beam of light from a flashlight, the Audio Spotlight speakers feature a 90% reduction in sound level just a single step outside of their beam. Harnessing the directivity of the Holosonic speaker, Vuitton was able to provide discreet localized sound to its shoppers, even within the larger overall sound aesthetic of the store. According to Cardoso, “The architects of Louis Vuitton were excited about the flexibility of the Audio Spotlight technology,” and eager to seek ways to incorporate it into future in-store advertising campaigns.

But perhaps what people weren't suspecting were the corresponding dedicated audio tracks at each screen location. Spaced only a few feet away from one another, each screen was still a unique interactive experience of its own, thanks to the Audio Spotlight system's ability to provide a narrow beam of sound at each location. Featuring a beam only 4 ft wide and 90% drop in level just one step away, the Audio Spotlight panels are the only speakers directional enough to have accommodated the narrow multi-zone layout.
Activated directly by the user, the exhibit's video and audio footage begin as they make their way through, informing them of the new Double Black blend and its key characteristics. People step into the display, walk through the video/sound stations, and are then invited to try a sample tasting on location; an initiative that truly targets stimulation of all five senses.
Johnnie Walker Double Black is currently only available in Duty-Free stores at select airports, and this is the largest activation worldwide for their current campaign. Originally installed in June, the exhibit will remain active through September 2011.
